What Will it Take?
Our team of experts will help guide you through the migration process. The migration consists of 4 key phases:
- Data Cutover and Historical Import
- End User Change Management
- Data Governance and Implementation Optimization
- Ongoing Success Planning
A typical migration takes ~30 days: 1 sprint (1-3 weeks) to migrate data and another sprint (2-3 weeks) to move end users over to Mixpanel.
1. Data Cutover and Historical Import
The goal of this phase is to bring the data you are already sending to Amplitude into Mixpanel, giving you a familiar dataset to acclimate yourself to Mixpanel’s UI.
- Kickoff meeting where we’ll learn how you currently send Amplitude data today
- Step-by-step project plan customized to your team and stack
- Migrate any code or tracking to point to Mixpanel APIs
- Audit the data you currently send to Amplitude to clean out any old or unneeded data
- Import any relevant historical data
2. End User Change Management
The goal of this phase is to switch user’s habits from Amplitude to Mixpanel through targeted workshops with each team.
- Understand how you and your team use Amplitude and the reports and use cases you care about
- Nominate champions and ensure their success during the migration (key change agents)
- Assess how analytics is currently embedded in your team’s rituals and processes
- Work with each team in small groups to help rebuild their most important reports while teaching them how to build ad hoc queries in Mixpanel’s UI
- Be available in Slack for ease of comms and unblocking (calls are available too)

A typical Amplitude migration project plan: optimized for mitigating risk by moving fast and in focused sprints

Mixpanel will be there along the way to support your team with specific advice as you migrate
3. Data Governance and Implementation Optimization
The goal of this phase is to assess your current data quality and usage and optimize the experience for end users.
- Leverage the input from end user sessions to assess current data governance needs
- Provide recommendations on ways that you can improve your implementation
- Advise and help implement a robust data governance process customized to your organization
- Work to make analytics a core part of your team’s habits and a first class citizen at your organization
