What Will it Take?
Our team of experts will help guide you through the migration process. The migration consists of 4 key phases:
- Event Tracking and Historical Data Audit
- End User Change Management
- Data Governance and Implementation Optimization
- Ongoing Success Planning
A typical migration takes ~30 days: 1 sprint (2-3 weeks) to migrate data and another sprint (2-3 weeks) to move end users over to Mixpanel.
1. Event Tracking and Historical Data Audit
The goal of this phase is to set up tracking for event data to Mixpanel and evaluate your historical Google Analytics usage to understand what data (if any) can be imported.
- Kickoff meeting where we’ll learn how you currently leverage Universal Analytics (UA) and/or Google Analytics (GA4), as well as how you send Google data today
- Step-by-step project plan customized to your team and stack
- Migrate or Duplicate any code or tracking to send event-based data to Mixpanel
- Audit the data you currently send to Google and Assess ability to import any relevant historical data (depending on how you’ve implemented and use UA/GA4, this step may be limited in scope)
2. End User Change Management
The goal of this phase is to switch user’s habits from GA to Mixpanel via targeted workshops with each team.
- Understand how you and your team use Google Analytics and the dashboard and use cases you care about
- Nominate champions and ensure their success during the migration (key change agents)
- Assess how analytics is currently embedded in your team’s rituals and processes
- Work with each team in small groups to help rebuild their most important reports while teaching them how to build ad hoc queries in Mixpanel’s UI
- Be available in Chat/Calls/Email for ease of comms and unblocking
3. Data Governance and Implementation Optimization
The goal of this phase is to assess your data quality and usage to optimize the experience for end users.
- Leverage the input from end user sessions to assess current data governance needs and implementation gaps
- Provide recommendations on ways that you can improve your implementation
- Advise and help implement/optimize a robust data governance process customized to your organization
- Work to make analytics a core part of your team’s habits and a first class citizen at your organization
4. Ongoing Success Planning
The goal of this phase is to align on your longer term business outcomes and how Mixpanel can help close gaps in product, service, or otherwise to continue driving value from analytics.
- Product feedback loop
- Usage analysis and optimization
- Periodic reviews of our partnership
- Ongoing product support and troubleshooting
